Heather Windsor Photography Blog: Wedding, Portrait and Lifestyle Photography in Durham Region, Toronto, GTA and Southern Ontario. Destination Weddings. bio picture

Hello!

Thank you for visiting my blog!

My name is Heather Windsor and I'm a professional wedding and portrait photographer based in Oshawa, Ontario. I travel worldwide photographing special events in peoples lives and I'm so fortunate to have this opportunity!

Victoria and Viktor | Engagement | High Park, Toronto

I’ve never had the opportunity to shoot in High Park before last summer, but I’m glad I finally did. I was like a kid in a  candy store, trying to explore every nook of this park and always being excited to find new spots to shoot around. We all got a workout on this day as I didn’t realize High Park was so full of hills! It was definitely fun,  and Victoria and Viktor had a stunning wedding last October that I will be sure to post!

I can’t wait for summer to come again!

Roxanne + Phiroze | Engagement | University of Toronto

University of Toronto was a popular spot this year, much like Brickworks and Liberty Village for engagement shoots. I had lots fun shooting with Roxanne and Phiroze last summer for their engagement and they had a beautiful wedding in August, which I hope to post at some point!

Enjoy!

Autumn 2009 | Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve

This is where I start to play catch-up to all the blog posts I’ve neglected to put up in 2009! Trust me..there will be plenty more coming this month.

In the middle of October I was able to escape for a few days away to Haliburton. It was so needed after a busy wedding season and autumn is my favourite season (yes..I prefer the word Autumn over Fall!) I missed the true changing of the leaves due to a cold snap but I was able to capture some images of what was still hanging on!

The Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve was beautiful and I loved exploring as much of the area as possible. A trip to the Wolf Centre was also a highlight for me.

Lynn | Studio Headshots | Durham Region Portrait Photographer

We had an absolute blast with Lynn at the studio! As one of our first studio sessions we were so excited to have her out for some headshots. Lynn emailed me because she’s starting her career in real estate and wanted some headshots for her business cards, website and other promotional materials. She told me she wanted something different from the traditional grey/blue backdrop that most agents have.

I’m always up for something different and I think we achieved a great look in giving her something more unique.

Also - many thanks to my good friend and makeup artist Adina Harper of  ‘A Touch of Red”!  She made Lynn look awesome for the shoot. You can visit ‘A Touch of Red’s’  Facebook Fan Page by visiting this link.

Thanks for being so amazing, Lynn! We had a blast working with you and wish you the best of luck in your new career path!

March 5, 2010 - 9:49 pm meredith hanafi - Love these! Beautiful lighting...

The studio is complete - Welcome to 182 Wellington Street!

So the Grand Opening went off without a hitch! We had a wonderful turnout with close to 75 people showing up from as far away as Wasaga Beach! It was so wonderful to see my family, friends and clients together and the outpouring of support, cards, flowers and gifts was overwhelming! I know I started to cry during my speech, so you know how much of an emotional rollercoaster this has been for me.  Again - the biggest thanks to everyone for being there!

Mayor Jim Abernethy came out for our official ribbon cutting ceremony along with some other members of council. I even have a snazzy certificate in the studio now! :)

I’ve taken some final photos of the studio which you will find below, as well as the ‘Official Grand Opening’ photos thanks to my good friend, Ryan Visima. You can click on his name to view his website or view his blog here.

Our BIG Announcement - Introducing our new studio!!

Wow! It’s been such a whirlwind over the past few months for me and I’ve been keeping this GIANT secret from almost everyone (I had to tell a few people..it was killing me!) Thankfully, now that the end is in sight, I felt that I need to relieve this pressure and let everyone know why I’ve been so crazy stressed and busy!

I was lucky enough to come across this gorgeous loft space thanks to another photographer in my area (Thanks, Adam!) and I fell in love instantly. I hadn’t originally planned on opening a studio just yet, but I had been keeping my eye out for at least a year now.  I decided that if I didn’t act fast it would be gone and thus, it was done!

Since December 1st, we have been busy in there with construction of all kinds. There has been definite progress made in the past week and it’s finally starting to look the way I imagined it.

Our new studio is located in an old factory in historic Bowmanville, ON (182 Wellington Street)  which is about one hour from Downtown Toronto and not too far from the 401.  It is a 1500 sq. ft loft space with 12 ft. ceilings, concrete floors, and exposed brick and beam.  It has gorgeous factory windows which face west and provide amazing natural light. This building also houses a catering company, a fitness studio, a church, a printing company and hopefully more to come!

Here are some of the progress photos so far from December 1st to today-

dec1

December 1st! Finally cleaned out and ready to go.

dec2

December 23: The walls are up!

dec3

January 6: Painting has begun. White is done, and the blue wall primer has been started.

jan1

January 8: The blue wall is finished. The new lights are all hung and the pipes are being painted white. The red was killing me.

jan2

Inside the back office/change room area. New floor paint has been trimmed and first coat goes down tomorrow.

jan3

Love those windows!

So we want to invite everyone to come join myself and my associate photographer, Dimitri for our Grand Opening on Sunday, January 31st from 1-3pm! There will be food, drinks, prizes and giveaways! Come check out the new location and we will have some great promotions running to book your in-studio portraits as well.

I will be posting an event on our Facebook Fan Page later today for people to RSVP and if you need any other details or have questions, feel free to email or call me!

Thank you for a wonderful 2009! Can’t wait for 2010!

Well,  as 2009 draws to a close I wanted to look back and consider whether this was a good year or a bad one.

I’m not generally one to reflect on 365 days as a whole, but I can generally  tell whether I enjoyed the year or had a rough one. I’d say 2009 was a mix for me. The year absolutely flew by me, mostly due to work, but also due to how much time I invested into reaching my goals and setting new ones.

The business has grown more than I ever could have imagined and I’m looking forward to all the amazing couples I will be working with in the new year. I have met, networked and become friends with some inspiring people this year and I look forward to expanding on that even more. There have been exciting changes, growth and learning. I feel refreshed knowing where I want to be in 2010 and how I plan to achieve that. I know it will take some time (and a lot of money!)  but I’m slowly working on it.

This year I traveled to Florida, Ireland and Newfoundland. I attended workshops, events and conferences. I photographed Bill Clinton for the second time. I watched my son grow up before my eyes and start Grade 1 (and lose two teeth!). I made some life changing decisions for the business. I took risks. I reached goals. I won three awards. It was a year of growth.

Personally, the year ended off very well. It’s always a struggle being a single mom, trying to run a business and balance every other aspect of a personal life. I know there are growing pains there but I’m trying to find that happy place. There was a lot of illness in my family this year and it’s been scary on different levels. My mother will be having surgery in February 2010 and I know that will change things for a few months while she recovers.

Weddings start back for us in February and kick back into full gear in April/May, including a destination wedding in Cuba. We also have many amazing weddings lined up around Ontario and some new locations to look forward to!

I know that 2010 will be a year to embrace and I’m looking forward to sharing all the wonderful news and changes with you on the blog next month! Thank you again to all our wonderful clients - past, present and future.  Your support doesn’t go unnoticed.

So from my family and myself, we wish you all a safe, happy and prosperous New Year!

Sarah + Brandon | Engagement | University of Toronto

This is my last engagement of 2009 and this means I have finally wrapped up all my shoots for the year! It’s a great relief, as I haven’t had much time to breath at the end of the season. It’s amazing how caught up you become in the rush of wanting everything finished for Christmas, on top of trying to get yourself ready for the holiday as well!

I have a few more blog posts to catch up on, so keep watching for those over the next couple weeks. First, I wanted to post Sarah and Brandon’s engagement shoot at University of Toronto, since we had such a fun time hanging out with them! Sarah was a bridesmaid in a wedding I photographed in 2007 and she contacted me when they became engaged! I love when I get to see people from past weddings again. It’s part of what makes my job so interesting and fun.

Enjoy the photos!

December 22, 2009 - 11:34 am Mihkel F - These shots look really nice Heather, great job.

Clare + Alex | Engagement | Forks-of-the-Credit, Caledon ON

I had never been to Forks-of-the-Credit, which is an area in Caledon that is very busy (especially on this particular day). It’s really quite beautiful, especially in the fall with all the stunning colours. Driving along some of the winding roads, I was so tempted to just stop every chance I could to take more photos! Sadly, the roads are rather tight  without sufficient shoulders and don’t really bode well for pulling over! Perhaps next year I will try again!

Alex proposed to Clare in a clearing in one of the park areas, so she wanted the shoot to reflect the start of this new chapter in their lives. We had amazing fall weather for this shoot and Alex and Clare are a super sweet couple who I really enjoyed getting to know.

Looking forward to your wedding next September!

December 14, 2009 - 8:43 pm Harjit - Loving it, Heather. You go girl!

Sandra + Chris | Engagement | Brickworks, Toronto ON

Brickworks has definitely grown in popularity this year! Distillery was big last year, but the switch has made me happy as there is more to explore in the surrounding area. It’s just unfortunate that Brickworks may never be quite the same once they are done with construction there.

Regardless, we had an awesome, fun shoot with Sandra and Chris. I met Chris years ago when I was working as a graphic designer and it would appear that I know pretty much all of Sandra’s family! Small world :)

They wanted to do a shoot close to sunset and we did experience some amazing light, late day blue skies and gorgeous fall colours.  Looking forward to their beautiful June 2010 wedding!
